Area Sales Manager for the Czech and Slovak Republic

Our client is one of the world's leading producers of all-natural biodegradable ingredients.. The Swiss-based international company's roots date back to 1867. Today our client specializes in citric acid, xanthan gum, gluconates, specialties, special salts and sweeteners for the food, beverage, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry as well as for various other industrial applications.

Aim

Our aim was to find a professional with extensive food industry knowledge (i.e. a degree in food chemistry), working from a home office, who was willing to work independently in taking over the portfolio of existing clients and expanding the local business base.

Methods

Mixture: Executive Search, Online Advertising and Assessment & Development

  • Thorough and detailed identification of target companies
  • Identification of suitable candidates working in those companies
  • Online job advertising in the Czech Republic
  • Using Iventa's internal database
  • Assessment of final candidates with internal assessment tools

Process

FFirst we started our search for suitable candidates with our comprehensive international database. At the same time, we placed online advertisements in combination with searching the country for companies suitable for our initial list of target companies with potential candidates. After this search we identified almost 40 suitable candidates in the Czech market and approached them individually with information about the available position. A total of twelve candidates were invited to a personal meeting and six of these were found suitable for this position. All of the candidates  fulfilled the client’s requirements, we therefore wanted better identify the candidate’s individual sales strengths.

Therefore we used the online assessment PERLS – a scientifically established, psychological diagnostic procedure which has been tested in a business-context and supports competences and potentials of employees and/or applicants. In this instance we used questions dedicated to the following areas:

  • Sales skills - willingness to solve problems, disposition of acquisition, service orientation, financial motivation
  • Interpersonal skills - assertiveness, strive for dominance, consensus orientation, strive for contact, empathy
  • Coping with stress - frustration tolerance, reaction to stress
  • Performance - willingness to learn, problem solving capacity (standard), achievement motivation

Result

The results from our personal meeting, our report and the results from the online assessment tool PERLS were disclosed to the client. The client then decided to meet three final candidates at their headquarters and in the end one of them managed to convince the client in their final meeting.
